Four training sessions of 90 minutes each were driven, and Henri Pescarolo achieved pole position in the Matra with a time of 1.35.879 . This corresponded to an average speed of 221.732 km / h. In the race, the works Matra set the pace. Only the Alfa Romeo of Rolf Stommelen and Carlos Reutemann was able to stay on the same lap as the Pescarolo / Larrousse-Matra until the middle of the race, but was canceled after 104 laps. The best place for one of the two Ligier JS2s was sixth in the race, but both cars did not finish. In the end, Pescarolo and Larousse celebrated their third win of the season and at the end were three laps ahead of the Alfa Romeo of Carlo Facetti and Andrea de Adamich .
