Peter Zbinden

Peter Zbinden (born October 9, 1937 in Basel ) is a former Swiss automobile racing driver .

Career

Zbinden's racing career went through two phases. First he drove touring and sports car races between 1970 and 1982 . Then it disappeared from the international racing tracks for more than a decade. In 1994 he made a surprising comeback and competed in the BRP Global GT series when he was over 50.

Peter Zbinden contested his first races in the early 1970s in the German Automobile Circuit Championship . He celebrated his first race win in 1972 in a national GT race without championship status in Hockenheim . In 1973 he competed in the sports car world championship for the Swiss racing team Porsche Club Romand and made his debut in the Le Mans 24-hour race in this context . He competed four times in the endurance race at Le Mans; his best placement was seventh overall in 1974 .

In 1976 he and Claude Haldi finished third in the 1000 km race in Zeltweg . With Edi Kofel as a teammate, he won the 3-hour race at Hockenheim in 1979 and 1980.
