Bernard Béguin

Bernard Béguin (born September 27, 1947 in Grenoble ) is a former French rally and circuit racing driver .

Career

Bernard Béguin was best known as a rally driver. He started rallying in 1971. First on the road as an amateur, he raced professionally from the mid-1970s. Four times - 1979, 1991, 1992 and 1993 - he won the overall ranking of the French rally championship. His greatest international success was his victory in the Tour de Corse in 1987 on a BMW M3 . He contested his last rally in 1996 when he took part in the Monte Carlo Rally in a Subaru Impreza .

Three times - in 1975, 1977 and 1980 - Béguin also competed as a driver in the 24 Hours of Le Mans . The Porsche 935 , which he shared with Claude Haldi and Volkert Merl in 1980, failed after 37 laps with engine failure. Five years before that he reached 15th place in the overall ranking. In 1977 he failed because of an overheated cylinder.
