Monza 1000 km race in 1975

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 14th 1000 km race of Monza , also Trofeo Filippo Caracciolo, 1000 Km di Monza, Autodromo Nazionale di Monza , took place on April 20, 1975 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza and was the fourth round of the sports car world championship of that year.

The race

At the end of the 1974 season , Autodelta ended its sports car involvement with Alfa Romeo in order to devote itself to other tasks. The German racing team Willi Kauhsen Racing Team took care of the works cars . In Monza the two Alfa Romeo T33 / TT / 12 were driven by Arturo Merzario , Jacques Laffite , Derek Bell and Henri Pescarolo . Before the race, there was unrest among the newly formed Porsche team led by Dr. Hermann Dannesberger. Dannesberger had acquired two Porsche 908 / 3-6 chassis , financed by Martini & Rossi , and used them in the world championship. The team traveled to Monza in just one car, which was driven by Herbert Müller and Gijs van Lennep . During the training, Müller complained about the lack of engine power from his point of view in contrast to the Joest -Racing-908. This led to a dispute between teammates Müller and van Lennep, who accused the Swiss of having turned up the boost pressure during his training runs. The dispute escalated to such an extent that Müller threw bottles on the wall in the boxes. Dannesberger released van Lennep from his contract, but had to let him drive in the race because there was no substitute driver on site. There were no problems with Reinhold Joest's second Porsche team , who finished second overall with Mario Casoni . The gap to the winning duo Merzario / Laffite in the Alfa Romeo T33 / TT / 12 was three laps.
