William Vollery

William Vollery (born January 10, 1949 in Lausanne , † September 11, 1989 in Bern ) was a Swiss racing driver .

Racing career

William Vollery, an optician by profession , was active in GT racing in the 1970s . He drove in the European GT Championship and in selected races of the Sports Car World Championship . Although his career suffered from a lack of sponsorship money, he competed three times in the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 1974 he drove a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR together with Roger Dorchy and Eric Chapuis and was in 12th place in the overall standings up to five hours before the end of the race when an engine failure ended his race prematurely. The two following missions also ended after technical defects on the racing cars before the checkered flag fell.

William Vollery died of leukemia in Bern in September 1989 .
