Monza 1000 km race in 1982
The 23rd 1000 km race of Monza , also Trofeo Filippo Caracciolo, Autodromo Nazionale di Monza , took place on April 18, 1982 at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza and was the first race of the sports car world championship of that year.
The race
The 1982 sports car world championship began in April with the 1000 km race in Monza , which consisted of eight races and ended with the 1000 km race at Brands Hatch on October 17 . The declared favorite for overall victory in this race was the Lancia works team , which the year before had won the overall championship standings with Porsche ex aequo . The Italians came to the traditional route in Northern Italy with two Lancia LC1s . Only the factory Ford C100 was considered the only opponent . It was all the more surprising that neither the Lancia nor the Ford could achieve the best training time. Henri Pescarolo drove this on a Rondeau M382 . Together with his teammate Giorgio Francia , he was also able to win the race after both the Lancias and the Ford retired due to technical defects.
