Career

Fritz Müller entered touring car motorsport in 1974 with a Porsche 911 Carrera RS . There he first drove from 1975 to 1978 in the German Automobile Circuit Cup (DARM) in the GT + 2.0 and Group 3 classes, before moving to the German Racing Championship (DRM). He celebrated his first class win in Group 3 in 1977 in the Avus race and a year later his first overall win in Mainz-Finthen. In the circuit cup, his best result in 1978 was the 6th place of the racing season.

In the DRM, Müller started in a Porsche 911 Carrera RS in a number of races in the 1st division in 1978 and 1979 and switched to a Mazda RX-7 in 1980 . At the same time as the DRM, he took part increasingly in the European Touring Car Championship in Division 4 from 1979 and later in Division 2 from 1982 onwards. Initially on the road with a Ford Capri III 3.0 S , from 1980 he contested his racing seasons with Heinz Kuhn-Weiss in a Mazda RX-7. At the end of 1983 he switched to a BMW 635 CSi and drove two more races, the last in 1984 in the European Touring Car Championship. His best result in this racing series, 10th place, he celebrated in 1981 together with Heinz Kuhn-Weiss.

Most of his few endurance races were in the sports car world championship . In 1978 and 1979 he drove a Porsche 911 Carrera RS in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring , which he was unable to finish due to failure. He had more success in 1982 with a Porsche 930 in Group B , where he achieved class victory with Georg Memminger in the 1000 km races at the Nürburgring, Spa-Francorchamps and Mugello . In 1984 and 1985 he started two endurance races in Group B with a BMW M1 .

Müller took part in a total of two races in the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 1983 he drove with Georg Memminger and Heinz Kuhn-Weiss in a Porsche 930 to 13th place overall. In 1993 he started with Gustl Spreng and Sandro Angelastri in a Porsche 911 Carrera RS (Type 964) in the GT class and finished in 21st place.

He gained greater fame through his participation in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM). He started there from 1984 to 1989 with a BMW 635 CSi. He achieved his best result in the DTM in 1986 when he was 10th overall.

In 1989 Müller retired from active racing and only started in a few endurance races from 1993 to 1995, such as the 24-hour races at Daytona, the 24-hour races at Spa-Francorchamps and the 4-hour races on the Nürburgring.

Today he runs his wheat beer production company Müllerbräu .
