Career in motorsport

Carlo Franchi began motorsport in the early 1960s and remained active as a racing driver until 1984. He drove his first races in 1963 in the Italian Formula Junior Championship and took part in Formula 3 and Formula 2 races. The Milanese's monoposto career remained unsuccessful, however, and is statistical patchwork. Once he tried to qualify for a Formula 1 world championship run. For the Italian Grand Prix in 1978 he was funded by an Italian tool manufacturer, a cockpit in the team of John Surtees . The fact that Surtees works driver Rupert Keegan was injured and therefore a place was free came to the rescue . Franchi drove acceptable lap times in practice, but missed qualifying for the race by 0.8 seconds. The races in the Aurora AFX Formula 1 series in 1979 and 1980 also had no notable results.

He was far more successful in sports car racing. In the late 1970s he became a works driver for Osella and dominated the races of the Italian Group 6 championship almost at will. In 1981 and 1982 he also competed in the sports car world championship for Enzo Osella's team . Both in the 1000 km race in Monza in 1981 and in the 6 hour race in Pergusa in 1981 , he and Luigi Moreschi achieved third place in the overall standings on an Osella PA9 .
