Markus Leoson

Markus Leoson (* 1970 in Linköping , Sweden) is a drummer , cimbalom player and teacher.

Life

Markus Leoson began studying drums at the Royal University of Music in Stockholm when he was sixteen. In 1990 he became the drummer with the Royal Court Orchestra and three years later became a solo timpanist there. In between he was also the solo timpanist with the Danish Radio Orchestra. After winning the Swedish Soloist Prize in 1995, his solo career took off with solo engagements with several European orchestras, recitals and CD recordings. In 2009 he was appointed professor at the FRANZ LISZT University of Music in Weimar. He has premiered around 60 works by international composers, most of which are dedicated to Leoson.
