Williams Connection Football Club , usually only abbreviated as W Connection , is a football club from Trinidad and Tobago that has been represented in the country's top division since it was officially founded in 1999.

history

founding

The roots of the club go back to a leisure team founded in 1986 in San Fernando by the brothers David John Williams and Patrick John Williams. When the professional league was introduced in Trinidad and Tobago in 1999, the club, which was also a founding member of the TT Pro League, was officially founded.

Success at the national level

The first season in 1999 ended with a third place in the championship and winning the domestic cup competition . In the following season 2000 the club won the " double ". The second championship title followed in 2001 and another cup victory in 2002. After the extremely successful early years of the club, “only” two more championship titles have been won at national level in the 2005 and 2011/12 seasons.

International success

However, thanks to corresponding successes in the CONCACAF tournaments , the team was soon able to draw attention to itself beyond national borders. In the 2003 CONCACAF Champions' Cup , she put the eventual tournament winner Toluca hard when she was 2-0 up in the first leg of Toluca with goals from Rolando Viana and Kendall Davis at break, before Toluca turned the game around in the second half could and won 3-2. In the second leg, too, W Connection led 1-0 at the break and later 2-1 and 3-2 before Toluca always equalized and the game ended 3: 3. The two exciting games against Toluca were the first of four so far comparisons with teams from the Mexican league, which appears to be overwhelming in CONCACAF . As expected, Williams Connection lost all their games in Mexico , but at the same time also demonstrated their home strength by the fact that no Mexican team has managed to fly home with a win. In the CONCACAF Champions League 2009/10 they defied the UNAM Pumas 2: 2 (and had already prevailed against the New York Red Bulls !) And in the CONCACAF Champions League 2012/13 they achieved a 1: 1 against the Mexican record champions Chivas Guadalajara . Against the same opponent, Williams Connection was able to record a 2-1 win in the 2007 CONCACAF Champions' Cup , but lost the second leg 3-0 and was eliminated in this comparison.

The team won international titles in the 2006/07 and 2009 seasons as part of the Caribbean Club Championships .
