The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football ( CONCACAF for short , German North and Central American and Caribbean Football Confederation ) is one of the continental confederations of the world football association FIFA . The association was founded in 1961 with the merger of the CCCF and NAFC and is based in Miami , USA .
All independent states of North America and the Caribbean belong to it. In football, the states of Suriname and Guyana on the South American continent are also part of the Caribbean, as is the French department of French Guiana . In addition, some territories of European mother states or the USA are independent members and take part in the competitions of CONCACAF and FIFA as such. Examples include Montserrat (British), Guadeloupe (French), Puerto Rico (US), and Aruba (Dutch).
The association determines the continental champions in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and also organizes club competitions such as the CONCACAF Champions League .

Member associations
CONCACAF currently has 41 national football associations. Of these, 31 associations are combined as the Caribbean Football Union regional association and seven associations are also united in the regional sub-organization Unión Centroamericana de Fútbol . The three associations of the North American Zone (Canada, Mexico and USA) have so far not set up the North American Football Union as originally intended in the CONCACAF statutes .
