The Bonaire League is the top division in men's football of the Federashon Futbòl Boneriano , the national football association of Bonaire .

history

The first confirmed football games on Bonaire took place in May 1923, when SV Hercules faced two teams from Curacao who had been visiting . On May 20, 1923 Hercules lost to Sparta II 2-0, the same result followed the next day against Jong Holland . In June 1933 the Bonairaansche Voetbal Bond was founded, which had nine associations as members by the end of the year. The association existed until 1937. In the summer of 1954, a short-lived association was founded again under the name Bonairiaanse Voetbal Bond . The current Bonairiaanse Voetbal Bond (BVB) was founded on May 31, 1960 by eight clubs. On Whit Monday , June 6, 1960, he organized a knockout tournament for the first time . The first league championship held was ended in 1961. In 1988 BVB renamed itself Federashon Futbòl Boneriano .

In 1963 the association joined the Nederlands Antilliaanse Voetbal Unie , the football association of the Netherlands Antilles , to which Bonaire was a part. However , the master from Bonaire only took part in the Kopa Antiano from 1972 until the Netherlands Antilles dissolved in 2010.

The host mode of the Bonaire League changed frequently. Since 2015/16, the nine participating teams have been playing against each other in a round-robin tournament with a return game. The six best teams then play against each other in a single round. From this, the four best teams qualify and meet again in a single round. The two best two teams from this round then play the Bonaire football championship in a final. The timing of the championship also often alternated between calendar-based and multi-year events. The season currently begins in autumn, with the final taking place in the summer of next year. The football champions of Bonaire will be given a starting place in the CFU Club Championship , this was first used by Real Rincon in 2018 .
