The Ligue de football de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon ( LFSPM ) is the regional football association of the French overseas territory of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon .

The organization was founded in 1976 and is a member of the French football association Fédération Française de Football . There is no membership in CONCACAF or FIFA . President is Jean de Lizarraga, his predecessor was Louis Quedinet.

Club teams on Saint-Pierre and Miquelon

All of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon's football teams are exclusively amateurs . In 2009 there were 443 club players registered. Island championships have been held since 1964; the clubs also take part in competitions in the neighboring Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador . Football is not the most popular sport on the islands, sailing and ice hockey are more common.

AS Ilienne Amateur

AS Ilienne Amateur has already won the association championship 25 times (as of 2013). On August 12, 1978, the club won the cup in a competition between the Canadian province of Newfoundland against local rivals ASSP 6: 4.

AS Saint Pierraise

The Association sportive Saint Pierraise (ASSP, also: AS St-Pierre) is by far the oldest football club in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. It was founded in 1903. The official team colors are green and white. AS Saint Pierraise has already won the association championship 9 times (as of 2013).

AS Miquelonnaise

AS Miquelonnaise from the neighboring island of Miquelon-Langlade won the association championship for the first time in 2005 and was able to repeat this success three times by 2016.

  1. Although there are occasional reports of a 3-0 victory over the Belizean national football team in Belize City in 1999, the Belize Football Association denies that the game ever took place.
  2. On June 21, 1997, a selection team from St. Pierre and Miquelon played against a selection team of former professionals from France , led by Michel Platini , and lost the game in front of a record crowd of 1,400 spectators (a quarter of the island's population) 4-5.

There are three football fields on Saint-Pierre and Miquelon:

  • The Stade John Girardin on St. Pierre is the football field of the AS Îlienne Amateur and the national team. The playing field, which is surrounded by a board, has a capacity of 500 spectators.
  • The Stade Léonce Claireaux , a soccer field surrounded by a gang with a regular capacity of 500 spectators, is the second soccer field on St. Pierre. The home games of AS Saint Pierraise take place here.
  • On Miquelon there is a football field called Stade de l'Avenir . The home games of AS Miquelonnaise take place here.
