Championship (sport)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In sport, a championship is a sporting competition in which the best participants in a particular discipline are determined.

Championships are staged regionally ( e.g. city, district, district, state, federal, European , world championships ) and in most sports at national level annually, internationally at a frequency of several years.

Championships are held by individuals or teams . As a rule, the top three winners receive an award in the form of a medal or a cup. The winner's metal is gold, the second silver and the third bronze. In many sports, the winners also receive a cash prize.

The winners are determined with measuring equipment or measuring devices (e.g. stopwatch, tape measure) or in a direct comparison of the competitors, in preliminary and final rounds (see tournament form )
