All sports that are played in or on the water are summarized under water sports . Winter sports such as ice hockey or ice skating are not counted among the water sports, although physically speaking they also take place on water.
The following list includes the Olympic water sports . They are all played during the Summer Games .

A third category is underwater activities, especially scuba diving , which is also competitive in orientation diving , fin swimming , underwater rugby and apnea diving .
