mode
The first three editions were organized as a round-robin tournament , i. H. each team meets the other two participants once at home and once away. Since 2011 the tournament has been held in knockout mode with semi-finals and finals. The seed numbers are assigned based on the previous year's placements in the league. The matches are played back and forth, with the better seeded team having home rights in the second leg or in the final, in which of the two games it would like to exercise home rights.
6 teams have taken part in the tournament since it was held in 2018. The two representatives of League 1 Ontario and the Première Ligue de soccer du Québec play a winner in the first qualifying round of the tournament. He meets the representative of the United Soccer League in the second qualifying round . A semi-final and a final will then be played. From the semi-finals onwards, the Major League Soccer teams take part.
Since 2019, all professional clubs from the Canadian Premier League have been taking part in addition to the previous teams. Thus the field of participants was increased from 6 to 13 teams. In addition, the participant rules have been changed. The teams from the MLS, like the representative from the USL, only join in the third round of the tournament. The winner of last year's cup will only join the semi-finals.
All games will be decided in a return match.
Cup
The winner of this tournament will receive the Voyageurs Cup . Until 2007, the trophy was awarded to the best Canadian team from the USL First Division ( Regular Season ).

- Only three teams took part in the first three tournaments. Edmonton FC has only participated since the 2011 season. There is no game for 3rd place, here the worse semi-final loser is listed as fourth. Ottawa Fury has been participating in the tournament since 2014, so the loser in the qualifying round is listed fifth. Since 2018, the three MLS teams (Toronto FC, Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps) automatically take part, while Ottawa Fury FC (USL) must qualify in a qualifying round against the winner of the duel between the champions from Quebec and Ontario.
