The Canadian Championship 2017 (officially: 2017 Amway Canadian Championship ) is a soccer tournament organized by the Canadian Soccer Association . The event will take place in May and June 2017. The winner of the competition will meet Toronto FC , last year's title holder, to determine the Canadian contestant in the 2017/18 CONCACAF Champions League .
The field of participants consisted of the Canadian clubs FC Toronto , Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact from the Major League Soccer , FC Edmonton from the North American Soccer League and Ottawa Fury from the United Soccer League .
The tournament will be played in knockout mode with semi-finals and finals. Three of the semi-final places were awarded to the teams from the MLS. The fourth place in the semifinals will be played in a qualifier between Ottawa Fury and FC Edmonton. The matches are played back and forth, with the better seeded team having home rights in the second leg or in the final, in which of the two games it exercises home rights.
