The Canadian Championship 2016 (officially: 2016 Amway Canadian Championship ) is a football tournament organized by the Canadian Soccer Association and used to determine the Canadian participants in the CONCACAF Champions League 2017/18 . The event will take place in May and June 2016.
The field of participants consisted of the Canadian clubs Toronto FC , Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact from Major League Soccer and FC Edmonton and Ottawa Fury , which play in the North American Soccer League , which participate in professional play in North America .
The tournament will be played in knockout mode with semi-finals and finals. Three of the semi-final places were awarded to the teams from the MLS. The fourth place in the semifinals will be played in a qualifier between Ottawa Fury and FC Edmonton. The matches are played back and forth, with the better seeded team having home rights in the second leg or in the final, in which of the two games it exercises home rights.
