Dominic Oduro (born August 13, 1985 in Accra , Ghana ) is a Ghanaian soccer player who is currently under contract with San Jose Earthquakes in the North American Major League Soccer . He is mostly used as a striker or as a right midfielder .

Career

Youth and amateur football

Oduro began his active career as a soccer player in 1999 at Prempeh College in Kumasi , Ghana, where he was part of the local soccer team until 2000. He also played soccer at the University of Ghana , which he attended from 2001 to 2003. In 2004 Oduro came to the United States from Ghana after the football team coach at Virginia Commonwealth University saw him play. Because of his school education he came to the USA that same year.

At the university he had a total of 18 goals and five assists in 41 completed games from 2004 to 2005. His strongest year was certainly the year 2004, in which Oduro scored 16 hits and was also named CAA Player of the Year because of this success . He also reached the quarter-finals of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship with the Rams in 2005 , the first time in the history of the university soccer team . After the college season, Oduro played for the USL Premier Development League for the Richmond Kickers Future for some time . For the Kickers he scored 16 goals in just 13 games.

Club career

In the MLS SuperDraft 2006 Oduro was transferred to FC Dallas as the 22nd pick in the second round . Oduro made his debut in the top North American division on June 28, 2006 when he came into play for Kenny Cooper . He scored his first goal for the Texans just a few days later on July 8 against the New York Red Bulls . At FC Dallas, Oduro shone as a fast and committed striker, but despite this advantage over some other players, he was mostly only used in the second half of the game. Oduro played a total of 70 games for FC Dallas from 2006 until his departure in 2009 and scored nine goals. In his last season, the 2008 season , he was able to contribute five goals to the franchise in 25 championship appearances.

On January 12, 2009 Oduro was given up to the New York Red Bulls. In return, the Dutch soccer player Dave van den Bergh came from New York to FC Dallas.

After only three completed games Oduro was transferred to Houston Dynamo on May 27, 2009 during the current season . In return, the New York Red Bulls received two draft picks from the Texans for the first round of the MLS SuperDraft 2010 and for the second round of the MLS SuperDraft 2011.

After the 2010 season, Oduro tried to find a new club in Europe. After he could not find a suitable club, signed a new contract with Houston Dynamo on March 2, 2011. After he was not used in the first game of the 2011 season , he was exchanged on March 23, 2011 for Calen Carr from Chicago Fire . He made his debut at Chicago on March 26, 2011, when he came on in the 89th minute for Diego Cháves .

After two seasons in Chicago, where he scored 18 goals, Oduro moved to the Columbus Crew on February 1, 2013 . A year and a half later, Toronto FC signed him. At Toronto FC, Oduro played in 24 league games, scoring two goals.

On January 27, 2015, he moved to the Canadian league competitor Montreal Impact . Toronto FC received a transfer fee for the move . Oduro played his first game for Impact on March 7, 2015, against DC United , when he was substituted on shortly before the end of the game. He scored his first goal two months later against the Portland Timbers .

National team

Oduro was able to gain experience in the U23 selection of his home country Ghana in 2007. On February 26, 2012 he was appointed to the Ghanaian national soccer team for a friendly against Chile . So he made his debut for the Black Stars on February 29, 2012. The game was played at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania .
