Charlotte Independence is an American football franchise the USL Championship in Charlotte , North Carolina .
The soccer franchise founded in 2014 will play in the USL, the third highest division in North American soccer, for the 2015 season. The team is owned by Queen City Soccer Club, LLC.
history
After the USL Pro season 2014, the Charlotte Eagles left the league and went one step lower in the USL PDL . This released a license and the Queen City Soccer Club was awarded the contract. They founded Charlotte Independence. On December 5, 2014, Mike Jeffries was introduced to the team's first coach.
First season (2015)
Independence started its first season with a win against Charleston Battery. On the Transamerica Field, which is located on the campus of the University of North Carolina , the team won 3-2. Jack Thompson scored the first goal in the history of the USL franchise.
In the 2015 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup , Charlotte Independence defeated fourth division Miami United in the second round. In the third round they beat the Carolina RailHawks 1-0. One round further they met the MLS club New England Revolution , which could also be defeated 1-0. In the last sixteen they met Chicago Fire .
Coat of arms and names
The name of the team is derived from Mecklenburg's declaration of independence , which was signed in Charlotte in 1775. The citizens of Mecklenburg County declared themselves independent of the British Crown.
For this reason you can also find the number 1775 and a mounted soldier in the coat of arms of the franchise. This logo was chosen through a public vote.
Stadion
Most of all home games are played in a makeshift football stadium, the Ramblewood Soccer Complex. This is located on Interstate 77 / Interstate 485 in the southwest of the city. The stadium will open in May 2015. a. held on the grounds of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte .
