On September 4th, 2014, Joey Saputo, owner of the MLS team Montreal Impact, announced the formation of a second team in the USL Pro. This makes Impact the second MLS team after LA Galaxy to have another team play in the third division of the USA and Canada.

The team should consist of young players from the Québec area, including players who have already played in the youth teams of Montreal Impact.

On December 9, 2016, Montreal Impact signed a partnership agreement with the Ottawa Fury . Thus, the FC Montréal was dissolved.
