The Reno 1868 Football Club is an American football franchise the USL Championship in Reno , Nevada .

history

On September 16, 2015, the USL announced that a Reno , Nevada franchise would be competing in the United Soccer League from the 2017 season . Herbert Simon, founder of the real estate company Simon Property , was named as the owner .

The name Reno 1868 FC was determined through an online competition.

On June 29, 2016, it partnered with the San Jose Earthquakes . In the course of this it was also agreed that San Jose would take control of the composition of the coaching team. Thus, the previous assistant coach of the Earthquakes, Ian Russell , was appointed the team's first coach.
