history

On June 18, 2012, it was announced that BDR Sports LLC, with support from the state of Arizona, wants to establish a professional football franchise in Arizona. On July 2, the USL confirmed that a franchise from Phoenix owned by BDR Sports LLC will participate in the third-rate USL Professional Division from 2013 onwards.

On July 15, 2012, former Scottish footballer David Robertson was introduced as coach. On September 27, the Scottish Darren Mackie, the first player was committed.

The first league game took place on March 23, 2013 against the Los Angeles Blues . The Wolves lost 2-0. The first home game against VSI Tampa Bay FC could be won 1-0. The team ended its first season with 5 wins, 7 draws and 15 losses. Donny Toia scored six goals for Phoenix FC, making it the season's top scorer.

On November 1, 2013, the USL Pro withdrew the rights to continue playing in the league. The background to this was the failure to pay players, an inadequate financial situation of the owners and further serious violations of the franchise agreements.

On December 16, 2013, the license was given to American Soccer Marketing LLC. However, on March 12, 2014, they announced that they could not provide a team. The vacated space in the USL Pro was taken over by the new Arizona United franchise .
