The Miami FC is a franchise of professional football - League USL Championship in Miami , Florida . The franchise was founded in 2015 and played in the second-rate North American Soccer League (NASL) in the 2016 and 2017 seasons . After the NASL was closed, they played in the National Premier Soccer League in 2018 and 2019 . Miami FC also played in the National Independent Soccer Association in autumn 2019 . For the 2020 season, the franchise switched to the second-rate USL Championship.

history

On May 20, 2015, Riccardo Silva and Paolo Maldini were awarded a franchise for the second-rate North American Soccer League (NASL). Alessandro Nesta was hired as the first head coach in franchise history . The team started playing for the 2016 season . After the 2017 season , NASL's game operations were stopped because the US Football Association had revoked its status as a Division II league. While the franchise waited for the NASL to continue, the players gained match experience in the 2018 season as Miami FC 2 in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) amateur league . The team's head coach was Paul Dalglish . Since the NASL did not resume their game operations for the 2019 season, the team returned to the NPSL as Miami FC . In July 2019, it was announced that Miami FC would take part in the 2019 Fall Season of the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA).

In December 2019 Ottawa Fury bought the rights to a place in the second-rate USL Championship , so that the team has played in this league since the 2020 season . Nelson Vargas became the new head coach ; Dalglish became president of the organization.

Stadion

The home games will be played in the Riccardo Silva Stadium, which is located on the grounds of Florida International University . The soccer games of a soccer team called Miami FC were played here as early as 2009 . This was later called Fort Lauderdale Strikers and also played in the NASL.

Riccardo Silva, co-owner of MP & Silva, which manages media rights, and the former Italian national soccer player Paolo Maldini are the owners of the franchise. Silva is the majority shareholder and president of the club.
