The 5th United Soccer League season was the 26th season of a third division in the United States.

The season began with the regular season on March 21, 2015. This ended on September 20, 2015. Then the play-offs took place.

Changes compared to 2014

Expansions

Starting this season, seven Major League Soccer franchises are providing their own teams for the USL (Montréal FC, New York Red Bulls II, Portland Timbers 2, Real Monarchs, Seattle Sounders FC 2, Toronto FC II and Vancouver Whitecaps 2). The Austin Aztex, Charlotte Independence, Colorado Springs Switchbacks, Louisville City, St. Louis FC and Tulsa Roughnecks franchises are entering the game for the first time.

The Charlotte Eagles and Dayton Dutch Lions franchises have decided to switch to the USL Premier Development League . After Orlando City moved to Major League Soccer, Louisville City FC took over its USL rights.

Change of league name

For the 2015 season, the name of the league was changed from USL Professional Division to United Soccer League. In the course of this, the logo and the website were also adapted.

For the 2015 season, the league was divided into two conferences, West and East. Each team plays 28 games. During the conferences, each team plays twice against the other teams. In addition, each team plays against three teams from the other conference. At the end of the regular season, the six best teams qualify for the play-offs.
