Grupo Bimbo is one of the world's largest food producers , headquartered in Mexico City . The company is listed in the Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC) on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores .
history
On July 4, 1945, the formal establishment took place, on December 2 of the same year Panificación Bimbo, SA began its activity in Mexico City with 34 employees.
In December 1956, in Mexico's second largest metropolitan area, Guadalajara , a second headquarters was opened under the name Bimbo de Occidente . Another production site followed in 1960 in Mexico's third largest metropolitan area, Monterrey, under the name Bimbo del Norte .
In 1972, in Azcapotzalco , Mexico City, the largest bread factory in Latin America , which is one of the top ten worldwide, was opened .
The shares of Grupo Bimbo have been traded on the Mexican Stock Exchange ( Bolsa Mexicana de Valores ) since 1980 .
With the founding of Bimbo Centroamérica in Guatemala in 1989, the Mexican baked goods manufacturer entered international territory for the first time. In 1991, with the founding of the Organización Latinoamericana (OLA), the leap to South America followed, and in 1998 expansion into the USA with the acquisition of the leading Texan bread factory Mrs. Baird in Fort Worth .
In 2002 the group was restructured and all companies were divided into four divisions:
- Bimbo, SA combines baked goods production in Mexico and Central America;
- Barcel , SA includes the branches and trade in botanas (small, savory starters) and ricolino (chocolate);
- Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU) supplies the market in the USA;
- Organización Latinoamericana (OLA) supplies the market in South America.

Grupo Bimbo is the world's leading baked goods company. It has 105 plants in 18 countries on the American continent, in Europe and Asia. The most important products include bread, rolls, biscuits, pies, packaged goods, tortillas, snacks and pastries.
In many Latin American countries, such as Mexico, Grupo Bimbo is the largest food producer. Net sales in the 2014 reporting year amounted to a good 10.5 billion euros.
Sponsorship
The company is particularly active as a sponsor in football. The Bimbo lettering can be found on the jerseys of the Mexican teams Deportivo Guadalajara , CF Monterrey and Club América , as well as on the jerseys of the Philadelphia Union from the USA and Deportivo Saprissa from Costa Rica . In addition, Grupo Bimbo is a financial supporter and namesake of the South American soccer tournament Copa Bimbo .
