Campeonato Internacional de Verano

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Campeonato Internacional de Verano ( German : International Summer Championship) is a tournament for club teams that has been held annually by the Uruguayan football association Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol in Montevideo since 2009 . It will be played in January - in midsummer in the southern hemisphere  - before the first round of the Copa Libertadores . In addition to the two top local clubs CA Peñarol and Club Nacional de Football , two invited, often high-class clubs from other South American countries each take part. All the games in the competition will take place at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo. During the first five events, the Mexican food producer Grupo Bimbo was the main sponsor of the event - which is why the tournament was also known as the Copa Bimbo . Since 2014, after Banco Bandes Uruguay , it has had the trivial name Copa Bandes as a new sponsor . The broadcasting and marketing rights to the tournament are owned by the telecommunications company Tenfield .
