Biggest triumph was a 2-0 home win against the Argentine club CA River Plate . Universidad won the national championship again in 2008 with a six point lead and qualified for the 2009 Copa Libertadores . After missing it in 2008, they survived the group stage this time and relegated River Plate and the Paraguayan team Club Nacional to third and fourth place in Group 3. As the worst runner-up and only club from the preliminary round with a minus goal difference, the team moved in the round of the last 16 a. But there it was after 1: 3 and 0: 2 against the Brazilian team of Gremio Porto Alegre .
