Universitario de Deportes is a football club from Lima , Peru . The club was founded in 1924 and plays in the highest Peruvian football league, the Primera División . He has been playing in the Estadio Monumental , the largest football stadium in Peru , since 2000 .
Universitario de Deportes is one of the most successful football clubs in Peru . He has won the Peruvian championship 26 times - more than any other national club.
history
The football club was founded on August 7, 1924 as Federación Universitaria by students from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima. The first Universitaria teams were composed of university students.
The National Committee of Sports (El Comité Nacional de Deportes), at that time the highest sports committee in Peru, recognized the club. For the first three years after it was founded, the club only took part in friendly matches with other teams. In 1928, the Federación Peruana de Fútbol took him on in the first division without any further athletic qualification would have been necessary. The following year the team won their first tournament and became Peruvian champions. In 1931 the association changed its name to Universitario de Deportes .
