Juan Manuel Vargas Risco (born October 5, 1983 in Lima ) is a Peruvian soccer player who currently plays at Universitario de Deportes . His preferred position is the left flank.

Vargas began his career with the Peruvian record champions Universitario de Deportes . In January 2005 he moved to Argentina and from then on played for CA Colón in the Primera División . For the 2006/07 season Vargas moved to Serie A promoted Catania Calcio , where he managed to stay up twice. On July 5, 2008 he signed with Fiorentina , with whom he took part in the Champions League in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons . For the 2012/13 season, Vargas was loaned to CFC Genoa.

Vargas made his debut on October 13, 2004 in the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay in the Peruvian national soccer team . He scored his first goal on September 12, 2007 in a friendly against Bolivia . At the Copa América 2011 and the Copa América 2015 he reached third place with Peru.
