Luis Rubiños Cerna (born December 31, 1940 in Trujillo , Peru ) is a former Peruvian football goalkeeper .

Career

society

Rubiños began his professional playing career in Lima in 1961 with Sporting Cristal from the Rímac district . For this club he played until 1973 with the exception of a one-year stint in 1962 at Defensor Lima from the Breña district . During this time he won the Peruvian championship four times.

In 1974 he joined Universitario de Deportes for a year and won his fifth championship title at the end of the season. In 1975 he returned to the Carlos A. Mannucci club in his hometown . At the end of the 1976 season he moved again to Universitario de Deportes. There he ended his career in 1977 after a season.

In 1985 Rubiños worked as a goalkeeping coach at Deportivo San Agustín . Due to the injury-related failure of both goalkeepers of the team, he came again at the age of 44 in the Primera División .

National team

Between 1963 and 1972 Luis Rubiños played 38 international matches for the Peruvian national soccer team . He made his debut on March 17, 1963 in the Peruvian 2-1 victory in the Campeonato Sudamericano against Ecuador in La Paz .

On the occasion of the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1970 , he was appointed to the Peruvian squad . In this tournament he was used in all preliminary round matches as well as in the 2-4 defeat in the quarter-finals against eventual world champions Brazil .
