The district of Rímac is one of the 43 urban districts of the Lima Metropolitana region in Peru . It is located north of the Lima District (Cercado de Lima), with which Rímac is connected by six bridges over the Rímac River . Rímac also borders the Independencia, San Martín de Porres, and San Juan de Lurigancho districts. The remains of the Peruvian colonial highlight, the "historical center of Lima", are in the Rímac district, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988 .
The district has an area of 11.87 km². The 2017 census counted 174,785 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 189,736, in 2007 176,169.
