The Barranco District is one of the 43 municipalities in the Lima Metropolitana Region in Peru . In the 2017 census, 34,378 inhabitants lived in an area of 3.3 km². In 1993 the population was 40,660, in 2007 it was 33,903. On October 26, 1874 , Barranco officially became a municipality of Lima.
Barranco borders in the north on Miraflores , in the east on Santiago de Surco , in the south on Chorrillos and in the west on the cliffs of the Pacific Ocean.
The incumbent mayor of the borough is named José Rodríguez Cárdenas (2019-2022).
