The district of San Martín de Porres is one of the 43 urban districts of the Lima Metropolitana region in Peru . It has an area of ​​36.91 km². The 2017 census counted 654,083 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 380,384, in 2007 579,561. The district was established on May 22, 1950. The district administration is located at an altitude of 123  m . The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) runs through the southeast of the district.

Geographical location

The district of San Martín de Porres is 3.4 km west-northwest of downtown Lima. It has a length in north-south direction of 11 km and a maximum width of 5.6 km. The district is bordered in the north by the Río Chillón and in the south by the Río Rímac . It borders in the north on the districts of Ventanilla (Province of Callao ) and Puente Piedra , in the east on the districts of Los Olivos , Independencia and Rímac , in the south on the district of Lima (Cercado de Lima) and in the west on the districts of Carmen de la Legua and Callao (both in Callao Province).
