The District of Independencia is one of the 43 municipalities of the Lima Metropolitana Region in Peru . It has an area of ​​14.56 km². The 2017 census counted 211,360 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 183,927, in 2007 207,647. The district was established on March 16, 1964. The district administration is at a height of 130  m .

Geographical location

The Independencia District is 6.6 km north of downtown Lima. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) runs along the western district border to the north. The district has a maximum length in north-south direction of 6.3 km and a width of 3 km. The district is bordered to the north by the Comas district , to the east by the San Juan de Lurigancho district , to the south by the Rímac district , to the southwest by the San Martín de Porres district and to the west by the Los Olivos district .
