Susann Singer

Susann Singer (born January 19, 1970 in Leipzig ) is a former German judoka . In 1990 she was still third in the European Championship, starting for the GDR.

Athletic career

The 1.61 m tall Susann Singer fought until 1990 in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 61 kilograms. She started at BSG Empor Dresden , in 1990 she fought for SC Leipzig . At the GDR championships in 1987, she took third place behind Jana Nischwitz and Susann Skiba . In 1989 and 1990 she won the title. At the European Championships in 1990 in Frankfurt am Main, she lost in the quarterfinals to Gabriele Ritschel from the Federal Republic of Germany. With two wins in the round of hope, she reached the battle for a bronze medal, which she won against the Dutchwoman Jenny Gal . Together with Jana Perlberg she was the only medal winner in the GDR at the European Judo Championships.

From 1991 to 1995 Singer competed in the lightweight, the weight class up to 56 kilograms. At the German championships, the athlete who started for SC Leipzig after its dissolution for the judo club Leipzig took second place behind Sabine Ziesig in 1991 ; from 1992 to 1994 she won the title. At the European Championships in Gdansk in 1994, she lost to the Azerbaijani Zülfiyyə Hüseynova in the round of 16 . In 1995, Singer took third place at the German Championships behind Tanja Münzinger and Julia Meyer.

In 1996 Singer returned to the light middleweight division and finished second at the international tournament in Moscow behind the Turkish İlknur Kobaş . Two months later she lost to Sandra Wurm in the final of the German Championships . At the European Championships in The Hague, she lost to the British Diana Bell in the round of 16 . After a victory in the hope round against the Italian Cinzia Cavazzuti , she was eliminated against İlknur Kobaş and finished in seventh place. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she was defeated in her first fight by the South Korean Jung Sung-sook with a juko rating.
