Cinzia Cavazzuti

Cinzia Cavazzuti (born September 12, 1973 in Modena ) is a former Italian judoka . She was European champion in 2002 and also won three bronze medals at European championships.

Athletic career

The 1.68 m tall judoka from the Judo Club Frascati fought internationally mostly in the lightweight, the weight class up to 57 kilograms. In 2005 she was Italian champion in this weight class, in 1996, 1998 and 2002 she was light middleweight champion.

At the European Championships in Bratislava in 1999, she was defeated in the quarterfinals by the Czech Michaela Vernerová . With two victories in the round of hope, she reached the battle for bronze, which she won against Lena Göldi from Switzerland. In 2000 she finished seventh at the European Championships . At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, she lost to the Chinese Shen Jun in the quarterfinals . After two wins in the Hope Round, she lost to the Australian Maria Pekli in the battle for bronze . In 2001 Cavazzuti reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Paris , but was defeated there by the Spanish Isabel Fernández , in the battle for bronze she defeated Michaela Vernerová. At the 2001 World Championships in Munich, Cavazzuti lost to the Dutchwoman Deborah Gravenstijn in the round of 16 , but reached the battle for bronze with three wins in the round of hope. Here she lost to Isabel Fernández and finished fifth. A month and a half after the World Championships, she won the final at the Mediterranean Games in Tunis against the Tunisian Karima Dhaouadi . In 2002 at the European Championships in Maribor Cavazzuti defeated the Russian Tatyana Shushakova in the semifinals . She won the European title by beating the German Yvonne Bönisch in the final . After a seventh place at the European Championships in 2003 Cavazzuti reached the semifinals at the European Championships in Bucharest in 2004 and lost to the British Sophie Cox , the battle for bronze she won against the Greek Ioulieta Boukouvala . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she lost her first fight to Deborah Gravenstijn, in the hope round she was eliminated by Isabel Fernández and finished seventh.
