Andreas Scherpf

Andreas Scherpf (born January 13, 1837 in Speyer ; † January 23, 1898 in Steinfeld ) was a German composer and singing teacher.

biography

Andreas Scherpf was born as the son of the musician Johann Michel Scherpf. He completed his teacher training at the Catholic teacher training college in Speyer and graduated successfully in 1855. He then worked first as a school teacher in Steinfeld , then from 1861 in Speyer. In addition to his teaching activities, Andreas Scherpf was also a singing teacher at the humanistic grammar school in Speyer for 25 years . With these school choirs, Andreas Scherpf also repeatedly performed masses by Palestrina and Allegri in the Speyer Cathedral . He also appeared as a composer of his own works and composed ecclesiastical and secular songs as well as a frequently performed operetta The Philosopher's Stone . In addition, Andreas Scherpf developed his own singing school, which he presented in several volumes and which was widely recognized.
