Lebrunia bushaie is a tree in the Calophyllaceae family from the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It is the only species in the genus Lebrunia . The tree thrives at higher altitudes between 700 and 2000 meters.
description
Lebrunia bushaie grows as a tree up to 20–30 meters or more. The trunk diameter reaches up to 1 meter.
The simple, short-stalked and bald, slightly leathery leaves are opposite. The short petiole is 4-6 millimeters long. The leaves are entire, elliptical, lanceolate and pointed and 5–10 inches long and 1.5–3.5 inches wide.
Axillary, small grapes are formed. The short-stalked flowers are white, four-fold and with a double flower envelope . The small, elliptical and roof-shaped calyx and the larger, obovate and boat-shaped petals are finely ciliated. There are 9–12 free stamens . The uni-, bald ovary is upper constant with short pencil .
2.5-3.5 centimeters in size, ellipsoidal to rounded drupes are formed.
use
An oil is obtained from the seeds. Like the old rapeseed varieties , it contains a high proportion of erucic acid , which makes it unsuitable as an edible oil.
