Jennifer "Jenny" Eva Carolina Gal (born November 2, 1969 in Uccle / Ukkel , Belgium ) is a former Dutch judoka who competed for Italy from 1998 after her marriage.

Athletic career

Jenny Gal won the Dutch extra lightweight championship in 1985. At the European Championships in 1985 , she finished fifth. In 1986, 1987 and 1989 she was the Dutch lightweight champion. In 1986 she won the European Junior Championships. In 1988 she won a bronze medal at the European Championships. At the end of 1988 she won the World Student Championships and in February 1989 the Tournoi de Paris . At the European Championships in 1989, she fought again for a bronze medal in the lightweight.

From December 1989 to 1995 Jenny Gal won six Dutch light middleweight championship titles. In 1990 she finished fifth in her new weight class at the European Championships, and in 1991 seventh. At the 1991 World Championships she was fifth. At the Olympic premiere of the women's judo in Barcelona in 1992 , she won her first fight against Laurie Pace from Malta, then lost against the German Frauke Eickhoff in the round of 16 and against Jelena Petrowa , who competed for the United Team , in the hope round .

In 1993 Jenny Gal was seventh at the European Championships and fifth at the World Championships . At the European Championships in 1995, she defeated Irene Tokarz from Poland, Birgit Blum from Liechtenstein, the Belgian Gella Vandecaveye in the quarter-finals and the Czech Michaela Vernerová in the semi-finals. After her victory over the British Diane Bell , Jenny Gal was European champion. Four and a half months later, at the World Championships in Chiba , she defeated the Israeli Yael Arad , the Spaniard Miriam Blasco in the quarter-finals and the Cuban Ileana Beltrán in the semi-finals. In the final she was defeated by the South Korean Jung Sung-sook . At the European Championships in 1996 she lost to the French Catherine Fleury-Vachon in the semi-finals , and Jenny Gal won a bronze medal by defeating Turkish İlknur Kobaş . Two months later at the Olympic Games in Atlanta , Gal prevailed in the round of 16 against Ileana Beltrán and in the quarter-finals against the Spaniard Sara Álvarez . In the semifinals she was defeated by the Japanese Yuko Emoto by a small rating (koka). Jenny Gal secured a bronze medal with a win over Turkish İlknur Kobaş.

Jenny Gal married the Italian judoka Giorgio Vismara and took on Italian citizenship. In 1999 and 2000 she was Italian light middleweight champion. In 1999 she won the silver medal behind the Belgian Gella Vandecaveye at the European Championships in Bratislava. In 2000 she was fifth at the European Championships and also at the Olympic Games in Sydney she finished fifth after losing the battle for bronze against the South Korean Jung Sung-sook.

Jenny Gal is the sister of the four-time European champion Jessica Gal .
