Yael Arad ( Hebrew יעל ארד; * May 1, 1967 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli judoka in the light middleweight division and the first Israeli medalist at the Olympic Games.

Yael Arad started judo training when he was eight . At seventeen she took part in a world championship for the first time. She finished second in her weight class at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona . In the final she was defeated by the French Catherine Fleury-Vachon by Yusei-gachi (victory by superiority). With her silver medal, she was the first Israeli female athlete to win a medal after nine Olympic Games to which Israel had sent a team. Also in Barcelona in 1992, another judoka, Shay-Oren Smadga , won the second Israeli medal with bronze. A year later, Arad became European champion. At the 1996 Olympics she could not repeat the podium, but reached the shared fifth place. After her active career, she became a trainer. In this role she was in charge of the Israeli judoka at the 2000 Summer Olympics , and now works as a television commentator.
