About this picture

The province of Lima is a region-free area on the Pacific coast of Peru .

The area, also called Lima Metropolitana , is identical to the Peruvian capital and does not belong to any of the country's 25 regions. It borders the province of Huaral to the north, the provinces of Canta and Huarochirí to the east, the province of Cañete to the south, and the province of Callao and the Pacific Ocean to the west .

The province is divided into 43 districts ( distritos ). Of these, 30 are in the actual city, the geographical urban area . Thirteen districts of Lima are located outside the city proper in the suburbs and rural areas. These are: Ancón, Carabayllo, Chaclacayo, Cieneguilla, Lurigancho (also Chosica), Lurín, Pachacamac, Pucusana, Punta Hermosa, Punta Negra, San Bartolo, Santa María del Mar and Santa Rosa.
