Cañete, cradle and capital of "black art"

Cañete is an hour and a half south of Lima . Cañete, which for many is synonymous with "black art", is one of the largest settlements for dark-skinned people in the country. An example of this is the very lively Festival de Arte Negro (“Festival of Black Art”), which, like every year, takes place in August on the occasion of the Semana de Cañete (“Week of Cañete”).

The creative knowledge in the field of "black art" is so extensive in Cañete that the provincial government of Cañete asked the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Integration in 1990 to recognize Cañete as the "cradle and capital of Peruvian black art".

Administrative division

The province of Cañete consists of 16 districts ( Distritos ). The district of San Vicente de Cañete is the seat of the provincial administration.
