The Imperial District is located in the Cañete Province of the Lima Region in central western Peru . The district has an area of 53.16 km². In the 2017 census, 38,925 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 30,654, in 2007 36,340. The administrative seat is the city of Imperial .
Geographical location
The relatively small Imperial District is located in the central south of the Cañete Province. It has a maximum longitudinal extent in NNW-SSE direction of 12.8 km. The district is located 7 km from the Pacific coast in the coastal plain. The Río Cañete River runs south of the district. The foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise to the north and east . Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the district.
The Imperial District borders in the extreme northwest on the Cerro Azul district , in the north on the Quilmaná district , in the east on the Nuevo Imperial district , in the south on the San Vicente de Cañete district and in the west on the San Luis district .
