The Cordillera Occidental (German name: West Cordillera ) is the western chain of the Andes high mountains and extends from Colombia in the north via Ecuador and Peru to the border regions of Bolivia and Chile in the south.

The Peruvian section of the Cordillera Occidental stretches over a distance of around 1750 kilometers along the country's Pacific coast , from the Piura region on the border with Ecuador to the Tacna region in the border triangle Peru-Bolivia-Chile. To the west the cordillera drops steeply to the landscape zone of the Costa , to the east the central and east cordillera joins, the latter merges into the Selvas of the rainforest region to the east .
