The Quilmaná district is located in the Cañete province in the Lima region in central western Peru . The district was founded on September 15, 1944. It has an area of ​​437.4 km². At the 2017 census, the district had a population of 16,091. In 1993 the population was 11,123, in 2007 13,663. The administrative center is the 13  m high town of Quilmaná with 10,638 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Quilmaná district is located in the hinterland of the Pacific coast in the south of the Cañete province. The district lies on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . It reaches up to about 7 km to the Pacific coast. The mountains and the slopes are barren with desert vegetation. Irrigated agriculture is only practiced in the lowlands.

The Quilmaná district is bordered to the west by the districts of Cerro Azul and Asia , to the north by the district Coayllo District , in the northeast on the district Tauripampa , on the east by the district of Nuevo Imperial and the south by the district Imperial .
