The Calango district is located in the Cañete province of the Lima region in central western Peru . The district was founded on November 4, 1887. It has an area of ​​530.89 km². At the 2017 census, 2269 inhabitants lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 2070, in 2007 2224. The administrative seat is the town of Calango with 736 inhabitants located on the Río Mala at an altitude of 305  m (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Calango district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northeast of the Cañete province. The river Río Mala crosses the district over a length of about 44 km in a predominantly south-westerly direction.

The Calango district borders on the Santa Cruz de Flores district to the west, the Chilca and Santo Domingo de los Olleros districts ( Huarochirí province ) to the northwest, the Mariatana district (also in the Huarochirí province ) to the northeast, and the districts to the east Quinocay and Omas (both in the province of Yauyos ), in the south to the district of Coayllo and in the south-west to the district of Mala .
