The Nuevo Imperial District is located in the Cañete Province in the Lima Region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on June 22, 1962. It has an area of ​​320 km². The 2017 census counted 27,440 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 13,136, in 2007 it was 19,026. The district administration is located in the 132  m high city of Nuevo Imperial with 6469 inhabitants (as of 2017). Nuevo Imperial is 7.5 km east of the provincial capital San Vicente de Cañete .

Geographical location

The Nuevo Imperial District is located in the southeast of the Cañete Province. The district lies on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . It has a maximum longitudinal extension in SSW-NNE direction of 35 km. The Río Cañete runs in the extreme south of the district along the district boundary to the west. The district stretches up to 7 km to the Pacific coast .

The Nuevo Imperial district is bordered by the Imperial District to the southwest , the Quilmaná District to the west, the Tauripampa District ( Yauyos Province ) to the north, the Pacaran and Lunahuaná districts to the east and the San Vicente de Cañete District to the south .
