The district of San Antonio is located in the province of Cañete in the Lima region in central western Peru . The district was established on December 27, 1922. It has an area of 37.31 km². At the 2017 census there were 4,343 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 2811, in 2007 3640. The administrative center is the small town of San Antonio with 3683 inhabitants , located near the mouth of the Río Mala at an altitude of 36 m (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The district of San Antonio is located on the Pacific coast in the north of the province of Cañete. The district is bounded in the south and southeast by the Río Mala. The district has a coastline of almost 16 km. It extends just under 4 km inland. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) crosses the district. The district consists mainly of arid desert-like landscape. There are several beaches as well as the Zona reservada Humedales de Puerto Viejo wetland . Irrigated agriculture is practiced on the banks of the Río Mala.
The district of San Antonio borders in the northwest on the district Chilca , in the northeast on the district Santa Cruz de Flores and in the southeast, on the opposite bank of the Río Mala, on the district Mala .
