The Helgelandsbrua is a road bridge over the Leirfjord in Norway . It connects the mainland belonging to the municipality of Leirfjord in the province of Nordland with the part of the island of Alsta which belongs to the municipality of Alstahaug .

location

The 30 km long island of Alsta is separated by the over 1000 m high mountains of the Seven Sisters into a larger western part, which is accessed by the coastal road Fv17 via the Helgelandsbrua. In the south of the island, the Fv17 leads over another bridge to Tjøtta. The two villages on the back of the island are connected to the mainland by the Sundøybrua .

description

The Helgelandsbrua is a 1065 m long and 12 m wide cable-stayed bridge with two lanes and a pedestrian and cycle path on the western side. Your bridge clearance is 45 m. Automatic wind speed indicators are installed in front of the bridge.

The deck of the bridge is an aerodynamically shaped prestressed concrete slab with two edge beams and a height of 1.20 m. The two diamond-shaped pylons of reinforced concrete have a hollow cross section, including a solid cross-section above the carriageway panel. They are founded up to 30 m deep in the water.

The bridge was designed by Holger S. Svensson and built between 1989 and 1991.
